TOMTAR (THE CHRISTMAS GNOMES) 5337            

Tomtefamiljen (the Christmas Family), was designed by Charlotte Weibull in 1958. Tomtefar (father Christmas), in his grey attire and red cap origins both from “Goanissen” - a benevolent gnome in Scanian folklore and Jenny Nyström's good-natured gnomes.

 
The dolls have a framework made of copper thread, which make them bendable and life-like.
 
 
1. Tomtefar (Father Christmas)

It is the old grey gnome who has inspired the appearance and clothing of tomten. He is dressed in grey, rough homespun clothes, a red cap, knitted scarf and wooden clogs.

6. "Goanisse"

According to legends the “Goanisse”, a spiritual being, was a benevolent gnome who lived on the farms and protected people and animals during the night. This is how we get to know him in the poem “Tomten” by Viktor Rydberg.
