The national costumes carry
on our cultural heritage and craftsmanship. A costume refers to
a distinctive way of dressing up
within a specific area, such as a parish or jurisdictional district.
During the middle of the 19th century the interest for wearing
folk costumes was gradually dissolved.
Nowadays the national costume is mostly worn at festive occasions
such as weddings and christenings, but also at funerals. You will
always be properly dressed when wearing a costume.
Seen through a costume perspective, Scania is one of Sweden’s
richest counties. The 23 jurisdictional
districts all have different costumes. At Charlotte Weibull’s
centre for folk culture you can order all of them. The total cost
of a costume varies, depending on the jurisdictional district
and whether or not you desire accessories. Basic cost is 1.867.
